  • When it comes to self-care, well, the traditional methods just don’t seem to click with you, leaving you discouraged and lacking the motivation to prioritise your own well-being.
  • You know that self-care is important, and you are fed up of living in constant cycle of frustration. You want to take some time out, but you need it to be fun, engaging and easy.

Imagine…

Get ready to find your inner calm and unleash your creativity with

Focus & Flourish

Focus and Flourish aims to provide a starting point for mindful practice, with sparks of creativity to get you moving forward. The programme uses simple mindfulness techniques that are tweaked into arts-based activities that engage and connect the mind and body. We look at purpose, intention, and ways to be fully focused on the present moment. This provides a much-needed break from our busy conscious minds, and allows our subconscious to come to the surface and express itself freely. Participants are encouraged to discuss their challenges around mindfulness, and work together to make adaptions and variations to suit personal needs. There is no ‘right or wrong’ in this programme – I simply invite you to come along and play with the concepts and see what works for you. By having an open mind and making adaptations, you can create a mindfulness toolkit that is tailored to you!

The programme runs for 8 weeks and uses arts-based activities to:

Hey, I’m Liz,

Creative Arts Facilitator and Mentor

My journey to creating Focus and Flourish has been deeply personal. I’ve always had a profound passion for art and its incredible power to heal, inspire, and transform lives. Many people have told me that they find mindfulness difficult, particularly in today’s society, where we are so busy that we often don’t feel we have the time to take a pause. For those of us with ADHD, the difficulties with accessing mindfulness can be heightened.

Living with ADHD can be both a gift and a challenge. We possess boundless creativity and energy, yet we often struggle with traditional mindfulness techniques. Gaining my ADHD Practitioner Certification motivated me further to find engaging and fun ways to help people with this. I know first hand how our minds can race with a whirlwind of thoughts, making it difficult to find the calm we so desperately seek.

This is why I created Focus and Flourish. I’ve discovered that creative activities and the arts provide us with a unique pathway to mindfulness and inner calm. When we engage in artistic endeavours, we enter a state of flow, where the noise of our busy minds subsides, and we can focus solely on the act of creation.

This state of flow not only helps us let go of other distracting thoughts but also aids in processing our emotions. It allows our subconscious to work through things, preventing us from getting stuck in our heads, endlessly overthinking and ruminating on our thoughts. After a creative session, I often find myself feeling calmer, more relaxed, and thoroughly refreshed, ready to take on the day’s challenges.

You won’t require any fancy materials for the programme, so there’s no need to stress about preparing them beforehand. Here are some things you’ll want to have on hand:

A4 paper
Pencil or pen (a ballpoint pen is perfectly suitable)
Felt-tip markers or colouring pencils
Scissors
Glue
A variety of paper scraps from items like junk mail or magazines (don’t worry if you don’t have these; we can also print materials as needed)

What if I miss a session?

Don’t worry – all sessions will be recorded so you can catch up later if you can’t make one.

What does the programme involve?

Each week, we will meet via Zoom to take part in a range of creative activities. This may be drawing, painting, collage etc. Full guidance will be given for the activities. The programme has been designed for women wih ADHD who are looking for new and innovative ways to level up their self-care, with activities that fuel their dopamine, while bringing relaxation and joy into their busy lives.

I'm not artistic, is this for me?

You don’t need to be an experienced or adept artist to enjoy creative activities. Some people who attend my programmes express beforehand that they are particularly bad at art! But that’s not what this is about – the Focus and Flourish programme is about creative expression and finding joy. As long as you are open to creativity and creative activities, this will work for you.

How does the programme help with burnout, overwhelm, anxiety and stress?

Mindful art is a practice that combines mindfulness and art-making as a way to promote self-exploration, self-care, and overall well-being. It can be a powerful tool for stress management, self-expression, and personal growth.

When you practice mindful art, you focus on the present moment and your sensory experience. You pay attention to the colors, textures, and shapes of the materials you are using, as well as the physical sensations in your body as you create. This can help to quiet the mind and body, and to reduce stress and anxiety.

Mindful art can also be a way to express yourself creatively and to explore your emotions. When you create art without judgment or expectation, you can allow yourself to be vulnerable and to express your true self. This can be a powerful way to process difficult emotions and to promote healing.

In addition, mindful art can help to boost your self-esteem and confidence. When you create something beautiful, it can give you a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction. This can be especially helpful if you are feeling burned out or overwhelmed.

Will you be running the programme again?

Yes! The programme will run again – sign up to my mailing list to be kept informed.

Can I join the programme if I don't have ADHD?

Yes! This programme is tailored for people with ADHD, however, if you don’t have ADHD and you are looking for a playful and engaging approach to mindfulness and self-care, this is for you!

How is the programme tailored to women with ADHD?

  • Activities are open-ended with space for you to explore your creativity and an opportunity for you to interpret them in your own way – there is no right or wrong way to do them.
